Obituary

Shreveport La – Betty Jean Barnes-Treece, age 86, formerly of Shreveport, Passed peacefully from her physical life, at The Glen Retirement Center in Shreveport, Sunday May 12, 2024. Betty was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on October 17, 1937 to Arthur Barnes and Mary Taylor-Barnes.

She married the love of her life, Eugene J. Treece, August 31, 1957. They raised two daughters and one son, and taught them to love and respect each other, with faith in God. Over the years, Betty worked in different occupations.  During the 1970's and 1980's she owned and operated "A Child's Place" daycare in supporting working parent's childcare needs.  Years later, she owned and operated "Betty's Diner" on W. 70th Street in Shreveport where she became well known for offering "home-styled" good country cooking; a product of her Arkansas roots.  Upon retiring, she spent her remaining life with her family, caring for her grandchildren, loving and caring for her handsome Groom of 63 years, Gene…and visiting and staying in contact with her sisters Martha Lue and Lyda Mae and her nieces Martha Ann and Mary Lanelle.

Her hobbies included spending quality family time; her Arkansas upbringing gave her a love for fishing and camping; she took special pride and love in preparing family dinners…her and Gene's home was often the chosen holiday gathering place and she was often happiest when cooking for family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Treece; her son, Bricky Treece; her father, William Arthur Barnes and mother, Mary Cecelia Barnes; and her sisters, Martha Lue Barnes-Caradine and Lyda Mae Barnes-DeVillier.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Sheila Treece-Nasser and Apryl Treece-Knowles and husband, Josh Knowles; and 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who all shared a deep bond and love with "their Aunt Betty" - she expressed so much love for them.

A graveside Service will be held at 10am on Sunday May 19, and interment at East Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Texarkana Arkansas.

Pallbearers will be John Ganey, Treece Nasser, Michael Nasser, Michael DeVillier, Dana Peninger, Tommy Tackett, Jordan Mitchell, and Josh Knowles.
