IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara
Shoumaker
October 14, 1953 – December 9, 2019
Barbara Ann Adams Shoumaker, age 66 of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019. She was born to William Earl and Dorothy Craft Adams on October 14, 1953. She was the second of eight children, which is presumably where her natural inclination towards bossiness and practical jokes began.
Barbara graduated from LSU Shreveport in 1990 with a Bachelor of Education and went on to fulfill her lifelong dream of being an elementary school teacher. She loved her students and tried to give every child who passed through her classroom love of learning and a hope for the future.
She was an active and devoted member of her church, Abundant Life Church of Shreveport for many decades. After retiring from teaching, she, along with her husband and dedicated volunteers, helped run the food pantry at Life Church. From the late 1980s to the early 2000s she was involved in Children's Ministry at Life Church, at times serving as the Children's Church leader. Generations of children raised at Life Church can still burst into song about "Father Abraham and his many sons" on cue thanks to her fun and exciting Sunday mornings.
Barbara is survived by her husband Robert Shoumaker, daughter Amanda Cole and stepson Nathan Shoumaker and his wife Courtney. She is also survived by her mother Dorothy, sister Kathy, brothers Dolph, Randy (Judy), Mark (Patty), Paul (Yvonne) and Daniel (Kim) and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father William Adams, brother Larry Adams, aunt Shirley Craft Thomas and nieces Kimberly Adams and Michelle Adams.
Barbara was a warm and funny person who touched countless lives. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial Services will be held December 12, 2019 at 2pm at Life Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.
