Annie Doris (Colvin) Palmer passed away May 18, 2016 after an extended illness.
Doris was born August 8, 1942 in Minden, LA to the late Mrs. Annie Mims Colvin and the late Mr. Emmett Fouche Colvin.
She recently celebrated 55 years of marriage to her husband William (Bill) Lynwood Palmer, Jr. of Gibsland. They have lived in Shreveport for over 50 years.
After spending her time raising three children, Doris decided to go back to school and become a nurse. She started her career in labor and delivery at LSU Medical School and later transitioned to caring for the elderly at Pierremont Manor Nursing Home. Her extended career at Pierremont covered 15 years.
Doris was known for her quick wit, knowledge of any subject along with an amazing talent for cooking, sewing and creating something beautiful out of anything lying around the house. She was well-read and well-versed in a variety of subjects which always made her an interesting conversationalist. She especially enjoyed an exciting football or baseball game throughout her life.
Doris contributed her amazing sewing talents to the local theater and dance community. She created beautiful costumes for Ballet Lyrique (now Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet) and many community theater productions along with serving on the board of the Shreveport Little Theater.
She is survived by her husband, one son, Jeb Palmer of Edinburgh, Scotland; two daughters, Julianna McKitrick, her husband Scott McKitrick of Houston; Jonna Palmer, her husband Robbie Silver of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, Brian, Jonna and Kevin McKitrick; two sisters, Dr. Meda Colvin and her son Emanuel Karr; Rebecca Colvin Addison, her husband Gary Addison and their sons Jason and Brian Addison; one brother-in-law Bruce Beatty and her two rambunctious dogs Angel and Abby.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister Emmy Ruth Colvin Beatty.
The family would like to thank the amazing staffs at Heritage Manor Stratmore, Guest Care at SpringLake, Highland Hospital and Aime Hospice Care.
A celebration of Doris will be held on Saturday, May 21 at Aulds Funeral Home,
7849 E Kings Hwy. in Shreveport. The family will be accepting visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to your charity of choice.
