Obituary

On Saturday, April 6, 2024, a service to celebrate the life and resurrection of Angela Gail French will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 1915 Grover Place, Shreveport, LA. A reception in the church parlor will follow the service. Angee, a beloved member of this congregation, died unexpectantly on March 30, 2024. Both family and friends are profoundly saddened by her death.

Angee was born December 12, 1961, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to her parents Shirley Bailey French and Enoch Joseph French, Sr. She graduated from Grawood Christian School and later studied at LSU Shreveport. Along with her parents, Angee is predeceased by her grandfathers Homer French and John Frank Bailey, her grandmothers Juanita French and Nona Grace Bailey, her uncle James French, her aunts Patsy and Vicky, her uncle Elton Bailey, her husband Bill Mazilly and Shelby Blakely, the daughter-in-law of her fiancé Gil Blakely.

In recent years, Angee had open heart surgery and because of complications, had a second operation. In spite of these two surgeries, Angee persevered and enjoyed life to the fullest. She had an endearing way of greeting everyone with a smile and making each person feel important and special. She lit up a room figuratively and literally. She will be remembered as a friend who brought light into a room, jingled when she walked and sparkled. A pink tulle skirt, glittering cowboy boots, blue jean jacket and her signature bracelets were her favorite attire. She could pull off anything and look fabulous.

As a faithful servant of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, Angee served as moderator of Presbyterian Women and was an elder and member of the Session, which is the governing body of the church. She was a stay-at-home mother who was generous, loving and kind. She loved her Bunco, cards and domino friends. Pride and Prejudice was usually playing in the background during the day while the dogs were on her lap. She loved studying her lessons, reading books and redecorating her home.

Angee's life blossomed when she found the love she deserved in Gil Blakely. Gil loved her unconditionally through so many trying medical situations. Angee and Gil enjoyed the movies, dinner with friends, and hunting, which, of course, meant pink camo for Angee. They were building a beautiful life together.

Angee is survived by three children, each of whom she adored: Evans, Kimberly and Joseph Foster, her brother John French, uncle Bill Bailey and his wife Connie, and sister-in-law Kim French. Many cousins, nephews, and nieces, whom she greatly loved, also survive her. Gil's family was her family: Stacey and Justin Herrington, Justin Blakely, and Lindsey Blakely Jose and husband Yvan. Gil's grandchildren called her "Cupcake," and to them she was a champion: Landrey and Jagger Herrington, Jayci, Alaya, and Bryce Blakely.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Ochsner LSU for the care they provided Angee and for their support for her family during this challenging time of trying to reimagine their lives without their little pink light.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Broadmoor Presbyterian Church.

James 1:17 "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." Angee was our precious gift.
