Alfred (Chuck) Holder was born in Vassar, Michigan on February 21, 1952 and grew up in the nearby farm town of Caro. He was the oldest of four having a brother and two sisters. He passed away April 23 ^rd , 2021.

In 1972 Al was drafted into the Army at age 20. He spent two years in Germany during the Vietnam war. When he returned, he moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where it was warmer.

Al was proud to be in the military and joined the National Guard where he served for 14 years, rising to the rank of Captain. Over the years his jobs included working on typewriters, computers, cash registers, and ATM machines and Security Guard at a Casino.

Al has always done things with a passion. He was a long-distance runner in his late 20s and had several hobbies. He loved shooting pool and was in several leagues. In 2008 his team won the city championship and went to the Nationals in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

He was very talented musically and played flute in the Shreveport Metropolitan Band. He also played acoustic and electric guitar, harmonica, trumpet, and even a Digeridoo!

Al was a good friend and always willing to help a friend or a stranger. He was a good listener and only gave advice if asked.

Al is survived by his wife of 27 years—Gale Gucker, his son Jeffrey Holder (wife-Lindsey), sisters—Cindy Michael, Delores Zajac, brother—David Holder (wife-Susan), step children—Jen Hughes (husband-Mark), Jeffrey Gucker, Robert Franks (wife-Jennifer), two step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 1 ^st ,  2021 at 2:00. It may be viewed at facebook.com/allsoulsshreveport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to All Souls Unitarian Church—Shreveport or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
