Alan Mack Hermel died of a sudden massive intra-cerebral hemorrhage on March 3, 2009. Alan was a man of high integrity. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. One of his life themes was "If you can't stay young you can at least stay immature." He lived that. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He held the office of High Priest in the Melchizedek Priesthood. Over the years he had held many different church callings. A couple of his favorites were serving as an Assistant Nursery Leader, Gospel Doctrines teacher and a Ward Missionary. He had also served in the Salt Lake City Temple as an engineer and in the clothing department. He also enjoyed singing in the choir. He thrived on serving others. He was involved with Boy Scouts of America for more than 20 years. He had been awarded a Silver Beaver, District Award of Merit, Scout Master Award of Merit, Commissioners Knot and other awards. He was an Emergency Medical Technician for 6 years with the Tooele County Hospital. He had just recently become a volunteer fire fighter. He enjoyed active outdoor sports. He had just under 500 free fall sky dives. He learned how to SCUBA dive and had acquired rescue level certification, and many other certifications. He was an avid dry fly fisherman and broke many fishing poles and fell down countless streams in the pursuit of the next big fish.
